It’s that time of year when everyone seems to split into two groups, those who are excited about the season to come and those who would give their own right leg to be in state of permanent summertime.
Me, well, I love autumn and winter. They always have, and always will be, my favourite seasons of the year.
The orange, gold, browns of autumn leaves mixed with a deep evergreen. That blanket of mist first thing in the morning. Dark and cold nights drawing in, meaning we can fire up the wood burners earlier and earlier. Homemade soups and pies. The feeling of frost crunching underneath your steps. Wrapping up in coats for morning walks, where you can see your breath puffing away in little clouds. Going to sleep with the rain beating on your window, knowing you have an almost lie in in the morning. Halloween and watching Hocus Pocus five times over with a bag of popcorn. Fireworks bursting above you, as a bonfire roars away in front. Everyone pretending they’re not counting down to Christmas (you so are). Patiently waiting for the first sloe gin of the season. Saying you’ll make a Christmas cake then realising it’s December 23rd and you still haven’t got the recipe out yet. Pretending to be interested in your colleagues at Christmas parties and then realising you actually get along after all (or not). Just Christmas, everything about it, just Christmas!
Here’s some snaps from last autumn/ winter that sum up everything I love about this time of year and what’s to come!
Tell me again how you don’t like Autumn and Winter?! Because I just don’t believe a word of it…!
