I’ve had a pretty swanky makeover here at Say It With Mud, with a custom designed header image and title, hand-drawn by someone who I have to introduce you to… Gemsville.
Her artwork is incredible, that much is obvious, but there’s more to it than just that… It has a real sense of unique style that sets it apart from many country artists you see. Attention to detail is second to none and it possesses just the right amount of quirkiness without bordering on obscure or unrealistic.
Now this is enough to pique the interest of most of us, but what holds our attention is what Gemsville then does with her work. She offers custom decorated shoes, bags, cushions, clothing, prints and so much more which makes her top at my list for hugely personal gift ideas.
Those illustrated shoes are her main feature, and it’s not hard to see why. They’ve hit a gap in the market, but why was that gap there? People these days seem so eager to stand out and put their own stamp on fashion, there is a real sense of fun with what we wear now. Gemsville shoes slot into that perfectly. Even if you’re just choosing a design she’s already created, you can rest assured that you won’t be a sheep following the masses, adhering to whatever trend you’ve been told is ‘in’ right now.
My first piece of Gemsville’s work came about nearly seven years ago (well now I feel old..) before I went off to university when she did a portrait print to jazz up my student digs. Now, fast forward an undergraduate and postgraduate degree, a few house changes and a lot longer hair, I still have that portrait along with three pairs of shoes, a make up bag and a canvas tote for my collection.
My all time favourite thing I’ve ever had from Gemsville? It has to be 26th birthday cake from back in January…
It’s not exactly an educated guess to assume I’m a big fan. I am very much a believer in supporting and promoting independent and original artists and brands and hope that’s something more and more people are opting to do these days. For those of you who are like me in that respect, check her out… you might end up with an ever-growing collection like me one day too!
